Does the country need a nuclear power plant on borrowed money to create a better image abroad? A nuclear power plant, or for that matter, any power plant is setup anywhere in the world to produce power to meet energy demand, not to create an improved image abroad or assert advancement in technology, as claimed by the Bangladeshi Government.

As each day passes , new and more shocking information about the fallacy of the multi- crore project is coming.Even a small child in our tiny fishing village knows about the corruption and callousness of the project. We know the issues of liability that the Russian Government is still not willing to address. We realize the cruelty of our own Government that states that a Fukushima kind of accident can be handled. Instead why is it that they cannot say it will never happen. Till a few months back the blame for the delay was always on us- on the People’s movement. But since a few months it has shifted to brief mention about safety and making it perfect. It intrigues us to know of all this.

A complaint had been sent on 11 April 2013 to the Joint Director, Central Bureau of Investigation, Chennai by Thiru.P.Pugalenthi, Advocate, Chennai to probe in to the irregularities in the supply of nuclear reactors and other components for the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) by Rosatom, Russia.

Against the backdrop of the arrest of Sergei Shutov, a director of Zio-Podolsk, a subsidiary of Rosatom, on charges of corruption, fraud and supplying cheap Ukrainian steel blanks and steam generators in nuclear reactors, former chairman of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board Dr A Gopalakrishnan has demanded an immediate investigation into the safety of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in India as it was Podolsk that had supplied components for the reactor.
