Carelessness in industry usually ends up with suffering in its wake, from micro level of poor maintenance of equipment causing injuries to workers all the way to the macro level in the form of environmental pollution. The incident at Bukit Merah falls into the latter category, and shows how much damage can be caused by outright disregard for local communities.
