The campaign against the India-Japan nuclear agreement, likely to be signed during the Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe’s upcoming visit to New Delhi, has recieved extremely encouraging response from people all over the world, vindicating our firm belief that this nuclear agreement is anachronistic, absurd and unacceptable to people in Japan who are witnessing a still unfolding disaster in Japan, and people in India who are brutally silenced by their government indulging in nuclear expansion misadventure.

An obsession with nuclear power makes many political elites secretive, ruthless and delusional, even as their cherished projects threaten millions of people with disaster. But the egregious examples I have in mind here aren’t Iran, Pakistan and North Korea. They are Japan and India, two countries with democratic institutions.

Lalita Ramdas, an eminent environmental and women’s rights activist and who has also been on the board of Greenpeace International and has been a leading voice of support to the people’s struggles against nuclear energy in India, has wrote this letter to the Prime Ministers of India and Japan and sent the International Appeal against Japan-India Nuclear Agreement to them, along with more than 1750 signatures from all over the world, on our behalf. The twoPrime Ministers are would be meeting in Tokyo on 29th May. Tokyo based groups would stage protest against the meeting.
