The pictures here have been sent to DiaNuke.org by our friends in Germany who have successfully forced their government to phase out nuclear energy. The whole world is watching Germany as its experiment with renewable energy is also creating new jobs and new kind of social relations.
Frankfurt is home to Urangesellschaft MbH, a 100% subsidiary of AREVA, the French company which is building 6 EPRs in Jaitapur on India’s East Coast. Activists in Germany have been protesting against Urangesellschaft MbH for a long time and have been demanding its closure. In a recent anti-Areva protest at the Frankfurt International Airport, the German activists raised their voice against nuclear projects in India and deportation of German national Hermann Sontagg Rainer from Koodankulam.
Here is the message that we have recived with these pictures:
Frankfurt was under siege the last four days. Today was the only legal demonstration against capitalism. More than 25.000 people joined the march around the city of Frankfurt. In the days before, some 500 people were arrested. You will find more information searching the web for “Blockupy Frankfurt.” Some friends had also a poster in solidarity with your struggle in Koodankulam. If you like, you may publish any of these pictures. We wish you all the best and we hope you will succeed in your struggle against nuclear power in India. Our hearts are with the people in Koodankulam, Idinthakarai and the other villages near the KNPP.
When the entire world is witnessing a shift away from nuclear energy, India is embarking upon this dangerous path – suppressing democratic voices, undermining nuclear safety and liability norms and buckling under the international nuclear lobby’s pressures.
