Beatrice Fihn is the Director of 2017 Nobel Peace Prize winner the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear weapons (ICAN).
In this talk, she outlines the contents and aims of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, as well as its strengths compared to previous treaties and the opposition it has faced. In particular she focuses on the victims of nuclear weapons and environmental damage. She also gives an expected timeline for ratification of the treaty and calls for continued pressure on both nuclear and non-nuclear states.
