Anti-Areva Protest in Jaitapur: Children in Sakhri Nate Release Balloons with Radiation Symbol

Sakhri Nate is a village near Jaitapur, where Areva’s project of 6 EPR reactors is proposed. Sakhri Nate is a seashore village, populated by muslim fisherfolk whose traditional livelihood of fishing is threatened by the upcoming plants. The hot effluent water from the nuclear reactors would raise the temperature of the nearby sea and make it uninhabitable for the fishes.

Children of Sakhri Nate and nearby villages protested on Novemver 14th, which is celebrated as Children’s Day in India, by releasing thousands of balloons with radiation symbol.

These balloons will fly far away and spread the message for a nuclear-free world.
