Protests against the Koodankulam nuclear plant continues. Fishermen of the region today held an unique protest. They sailed out to the nearby sea in over 1000 boats, waving black flags and demanding closure of the plant. The protest coincides with World Fisheries Day being observed on 21st November 2011.
Here are some pictures of the fishermen’s protest, sent to DiaNuke.org by Jeya Singh Fernando

It is not correct that 500m distance fishing restriction can affect tens of thousands of fisher folks. It is rest assured that there won’t be any reduction in the fish catching. Sea is not a Pond where water is stagnated and temperature rise can affect the fishes. It is ocean, change in temperature will be small in that vast open area of sea. The water discharged from plant is filtered and free from radiation effects because of physical separation in the cooling systems. The sea water cooling system don’t mix with the water in reactor. The radiation which may affect fish in sea water during normal operation may be very small or negligible which has been many times certified by geological experts. Therefore fishermen fear of risk due to raditaion is not justified.Hence stopping KKNPP having world class safety features and is also ready to power the southern grid with 2000MW is not acceptable.
Your comment is super about sea is pond water is not stagnated in place it spread whole ocean, it means the nuke wastes also spread the whole ocean.
Please read how nuke wastages spread in sea.
pump systems drew cooling water from the sea and, after treating this water for use by the reactors, returned it to the river. Before being released back into the sea, the used water was held in large tanks known as retention basins for up to six hours. Longer-lived isotopes were not affected by this retention, and several terabecquerels entered the river every day.
